IMG_0091 - Version 2Becky is a recent Northeastern graduate and crop top enthusiast currently pursuing a career in child psychology here in Boston, and bringing some serious street style game to our city, as well. It’s great to have a friend who shares my affinity for 90s fashion/general old school pop culture—she even bought me my new tattoo choker, just like the ones my big sister and her cool friends wore while I was busy being too young to actually experience the fashions of that epic era…Anyway, I love how Becky took a simple, go-to grunge look, and made it completely new with her Steve Madden gladiators, which received about a hundred compliments per block on Newbury Street. A sophisticated bag or a statement shoe can make band tees and baggy shorts anything but basic. I’ll never give up this old Zeppelin tee. The open back is clutch on hot summer days, and The Song Remains the Same is definitely one of the best concert films of all time.

Bigger is Better

Proper size and fit are crucial elements of style. It’s never OK to wear clothes that are too small, but oversized pieces can take a simple outfit to a more dynamic place.1Q1A8267Boyfriend blazer from LF Stores, Sandro tee, American Apparel jeans & socks, Sandro creepers, Oliver Peoples sunglasses: this is my go-to look lately; it’s comfortable, and the tomboy sizing (and admittedly clown-like shoes) brings a bit of eccentricity to such basic pieces. Sometimes I swap this footwear for a striped sock and my plain black platform sneakers.1Q1A8270

No Shirt November?

Nothing gets between me and my crop tops…1Q1A6840AllSaints leather jacket, American Apparel cropped tee, boyfriend jeans from LF Stores (circa 2008), Jeffrey Campbell suede booties, Le Spec sunglasses, beanie from CVS (lol).1Q1A6853Since crop tops made their comeback, I feel like they’ve been deemed appropriate only for summer or clubbing. Honestly, it might be a phase, but I think almost every outfit looks better when the top half is missing its bottom half. These medium-wash baggy boyfriend jeans and my oversized jacket (I went a couple sizes up so I’d have room for a sweater underneath, for those rare occasions when I let cold weather win) give my crop top a laid back, tomboy feel.
