What’s in a handbag? I’m not talking about the contents—lipsticks, loose breath mints—and yet I am: what is it that definitively makes a bag a “handbag”? Furla has become my official go-to designer for great bags, so I knew they’d have the perfect little red cross body for me to add a fun, rich pop of color to my wardrobe. Funnily enough, it turned out that the perfect purse technically isn’t a purse at all. Though it comes with a detachable strap, the gorgeous cross body bag you see above, playfully named the ‘Yo-Yo,’ was designed to be used as a cosmetic case, and even comes with a smaller travel case/mirror, so you can really get on the go in style. But I just think the round shape is so cool and fresh, and once I attached the strap and the matching leather tassel key fob, I absolutely fell in love. You know what they say: the customer is always right, and the moral of this story is that the creative customer ends up with extra accessories.
Although the Furla website only shows the “cosmetic case” (i.e. amazing handbag) in a gorgeous shade of turquoise-blue, a soft gold, and a classic black, it comes in other colors, as well, including a bubblegum pink, and the shade of ruby I chose for myself. Visit the Furla store in the Copley Place Mall, next to Barney’s, to see the whole color wheel, plus tons of other awesome bags and accessories. The styles and prices all make for really rad gifts, so if you’re running late on holiday shopping for your fashionista friend(s), I suggest you scurry over to Furla. And don’t forget to really look at their selection of decorative key fobs; from furry pom-poms to the leather tassel I’ve attached to my Yo-Yo bag, these small accessories are a great way to bring a little variation to your handbag collection.
It would be easy to make star-embroidered denim look somewhat childish. I decided to take these Maje jeans in a more sophisticated direction by layering a silk button-down over a thin turtleneck. My bold bag (the jeans were just begging for that American-flag feel) and ombre lucite heels are in keeping with the jeans’ fun energy, and help them stand out just enough.
