Warby Parker Exclusive

1Q1A8532I was so excited when eyewear company Warby Parker asked me to review their new summer sunglasses collection, which debuts today! Sunglasses have always been my favorite accessory, and Warby Parker makes beautiful, fun, affordable frames for men and women—and for a great cause. For every pair of sunglasses sold, Warby Parker donates a pair to someone in need, and their sunglasses start at just $95. In short, Warby Parker offers you the chance to buy stylish sunglasses and help those less fortunate without going broke yourself. That’s what I call a fashion win-win-win.

I chose the ‘Madison’ frames because they feature a classic, flattering shape, and because this particular shade of burgundy-red is so versatile. Vibrant enough to bring a little life to my first, black and white outfit, yet understated enough to wear with more colorful looks without going over the top, Warby Parker sunglasses are perfect for people with eclectic style and taste.

Warby Parker’s new Spectrum Sun Collection, available starting today, achieves the same kind of cool with a classic, retro vibe and a fresh selection of colors. Every pair lends itself to endless looks for every occasion. Plus, their sturdy plastic frames will survive whatever craziness summer brings your way—a day at the beach, music festivals, the inside of your purse…

After gushing over the whole new summer collection, I was able to narrow myself down three favorites, shown above, but I can’t seem to settle on one pair just yet. Each truly evokes the simultaneously adventurous and laid-back summer experience, and many looks from the summer line will carry over seamlessly into your fall/winter wardrobe. Stay tuned to see which pair I choose to take with me to Bonnaroo Music Festival in June, and be sure to visit the Warby Parker website to see the rest of the Spectrum Sun Collection, and to learn more about their charitable work. Warby Parker also has a store located at 83 Newbury Street here in Boston.

Ladies is Pimps, too…

Shall we shag now, or shall we shag later? You might think a shag coat is an unrealistic item that will just sit in your closet collecting even more fuzz, but you’d be wrong. Once you have one, the answer is always now. I bought my faux fur shag coat from LF Stores in 2011, and it’s been an essential part of my fall/winter experience ever since, to the point where I stare at it longingly during spring and summer. Why? Because the right shag coat can evoke the spirit of Cruella DeVille, a gangster rap star AND Kurt Cobain in the most deliciously weird way. The shag coat is a conversation starter: you will find yourself talking to more strangers whilst rocking your shag—and (WARNING) being touched by them, too.1Q1A5581Here I am in another American Apparel oversized chiffon button-up, tied up to show just a sliver of skin over my Urban Outfitters harem trousers.1Q1A5585

1Q1A5733I’m wearing my Jeffrey Campbell booties to give the look a little height, but an oversized blazer and loafers or oxfords like these (or these) would give the pants and blouse that menswear-inspired look that everyone’s going for these days.

Leather Skirts

As my coworker (whom we call Mother Sauce) recently said, “It’s like leather threw up all over everything this fall.” This is entirely accurate, and I have no objections. However, I think when a leather skirt comes to mind, over-sexed images sometimes to come to mind, as well. Here are two ways you can rock a leather skirt without going too S&M.1Q1A5492I’m not usually one for micro-minis, but I fell in love with this AllSaints Mini Split Lucille Skirt in “Bottle Green,” which I’m wearing here with my REISS London Bebbington Knit, Wolford tights, and my Jeffrey Campbell In the Mood Boots with an ombre lucite heel. Yes, this skirt is leather, short, and has an asymmetrical zipper with a bit of a slit, but I think the warm forest green (a fall/winter classic) brings it down to earth. 1Q1A5494 - Version 2Although the sweater’s sheer panels are in tune with the skirt’s edgy vibe, the long sleeves and low heels minimize the sex factor. These tights are pretty sheer, but opaque black would also make the outfit more casual.1Q1A5521Another one of my coworkers described this skirt as “Madonna goes Christmas.” I’m not sure whether she meant this as a negative or a positive, but I’m definitely leaning towards the positive. That’s one claymation Christmas special I would love to see.1Q1A5497

1Q1A5506This whole look could work for day or night, depending on where you’re going.1Q1A5359 - Version 2Metallics and fair isle prints are fall/winter staples, and this comfy vintage Ralph Lauren Collection turtleneck sweater is the perfect way to tame this vintage silver leather skirt for a sleek daytime look. The fact that the sweater is slightly cropped keeps the outfit from being too boxy.1Q1A5381Don’t you just love Mom’s hand-me-downs?1Q1A5369Photos by Amanda Rosen
