To say that I love denim is an understatement, so I’m always on the hunt for unique takes on the human race’s favorite textile. This embellished denim jacket and my paint-splattered jeans are both repurposed vintage Levi’s pieces, given new life with fun details subtle enough to work together in this look. I reworked these jeans even further by cutting them myself—perhaps a bit uneven and a touch too short, but hey, culottes and raw hems are on fire right now. I added these fur sandals and my blush bag to soften the look of oversized denim on oversized denim, and to pick up on the paint colors. Obviously you could pull off a similar ensemble with a more “practical” shoe, but I think the fuzzy-sandal trend makes for such a sweet statement to amp up your fall/winter style. (Also, these bad boys are adorned with real rabbit fur, and apparently you can just take a blow dryer to ’em if they get a little wet in winter weather. For some reason I found it hilarious when the sales associate told me this.) My new eyeglasses, which are actually just Ray-Ban sunglasses with the original lenses popped out and my prescription popped in, so far seem to go with just about anything, dressy or casual. Quirky and retro but delicate, they bring a little extra something special without dominating the look.

I think we and our feet can agree that the sneaker’s ongoing presence as a stylish fashion statement is a wonderful thing. But cool sneakers that will provide both comfort and flair are expensive, and personally, I always feel like I’m settling if I choose from an in-store collection. That’s why I think Nike’s customization program, Nike iD, is well worth the few extra bucks and the five-week wait. I customized these Air Max Lunar90 kicks with the ’90s era in mind, drawing inspiration from the colors and patterns of Will Smith’s funky and famous wardrobe as the Fresh Prince. Pairing sneakers like this with bohemian pieces, like this shag “coatigan” and wool hat, along with luxe accessories (real or faux, fur is your friend!) makes for a casual-chic look that oozes style without taking itself too seriously, just like the Prince himself.

Seeing Spots

I’m seriously considering selling some of my organs and investing in this amazing Maje rabbit-fur, leopard-printed coat. My body literally convulsed with pure ecstasy when I slipped into this bad boy, and in my oversized Le Specs “New Wave” shades and YSL lipstick in “Le Orange,” I practically hallucinated and heard Iris Apfel whisper in my ear, “Just do it…”

Until I inevitably cave and find a way to make that coat mine, I’ll have to enjoy smaller doses of leopard and cheetah prints, like this faux fur beret I got a few years ago via Nasty Gal, or these flats from Madewell.
