Like many pieces by Maje, I can’t quite explain what I love about this top. I’m not into sports. I’ve never even been to Arizona. I am, however, a fan of the juxtaposition between this athletic-style tee and my creepers. They come together to create a cool tomboy-chic look that’s feminine in its flirtiness: the cropped tee, the flouncy shorts, the dramatic shoes. Easy yet bold is always a good thing.

I love metallic accessories, because they can be taken in so many different directions. This silver Furla cross body adds excitement to and flows seamlessly from sleek, dressy outfits, to more casual, grungy looks. I love the element of luxury it brings to this 90s-inspired ensemble, and its futuristic, reflective finish makes it all a little extra terrestrial. Perhaps most importantly, this dainty bag actually has a surprisingly spacious interior, which makes it easy to transition from day to night, for almost any occasion.

Daring to have multi-colored hair has definitely motivated me to get a little more adventurous with my hair styles, as well. My mother thinks this ‘do makes me “look like a lamp,” but I think it’s spunky. Plus, I love lamp.

One of my favorite things about dressing for this season is the way cheerful springy-summery prints and colors prompt me to create modern takes on retro styles. My paisley button-down, cuffed pants, platform loafers and matchy-matchy accessories all have a ’60s/’70s vibe, but details like the cropped cut of my blouse, stacked rings, and my oh-so-millennial “OMG”-embossed clutch bring the look up to date.

Bigger is Better

Proper size and fit are crucial elements of style. It’s never OK to wear clothes that are too small, but oversized pieces can take a simple outfit to a more dynamic place.1Q1A8267Boyfriend blazer from LF Stores, Sandro tee, American Apparel jeans & socks, Sandro creepers, Oliver Peoples sunglasses: this is my go-to look lately; it’s comfortable, and the tomboy sizing (and admittedly clown-like shoes) brings a bit of eccentricity to such basic pieces. Sometimes I swap this footwear for a striped sock and my plain black platform sneakers.1Q1A8270

Creepers in Copley

IMG_1679I coveted these Sandro creepers for months, so I couldn’t wait to take them for a spin in Copley. I decided to embrace their menswear undertones with other pieces stolen from the boys, pairing my American Apparel printed chiffon blouse with my boyfriend blazer from LF Stores. My Carmar high-waisted ankle jeans, also from LF, let the creepers take the spotlight. Miley Cyrus wore these same shoes when she performed “Wrecking Ball” on SNL last week, no big deal:

IMG_1701These white See Eyewear shades pick up the white in my shoes and blouse, and the enormous cateye frames are fitting with such dramatic kicks. Plus they make the whole look a little more feminine.IMG_1699I have this blouse in nine or ten different colors and prints because you can wear them so many different ways: buttoned all the way up with a blazer likes this, it evokes an androgynous vibe, but they’re long enough to tie up into a crop top and light enough to wear open over a bathing suit. Don’t worry. I’ll prove it.IMG_1709
