Derelicte

Homeless bag lady-chic is one of those mysterious “Haha I’m kidding…but seriously, this looks good” compartments of fashion. Rooted in ’90s grunge and made famous by the Olsen twins, it’s a hard look to master, and even if you get it right, the majority of people will hate your outfit. Whatever. Sexy was never my strong suit. Since layering is the key ingredient to this style, fall/winter is the perfect time to do your best Blue Steel and go totally “derelicte…”1Q1A5801I take my T by Alexander Wang column dress right into winter with my American Apparel Mohair Loose Cardigan, a scarf & beanie from LF Stores, and, introducing my latest obsession: the Jeffrey Campbell Nirvana Boots a la Nasty Gal.1Q1A5804 - Version 2

Dressing Up Boyfriend Jeans

Everyone knows that Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen have fashion figured out. They look effortlessly cool everywhere they go, plus they’re the masterminds behind The Row and Elizabeth & James, two of my favorite labels. As you saw in my earlier post, “Like It’s ’92,” going grunge was my first instinct when it came to wearing my beloved boyfriend jeans. Then I saw this picture of fashion’s favorite twins and went gaga for the way Mary-Kate took her distressed boyfriend jeans to a whole new level of off-beat chic by pairing them with black pointed-toe heels:1381227_648681955166468_1986580530_nThough MK (right) appears to be wearing some kind of shag or shearling coat, I emulated her look with my new Sandro turtleneck sweater. (Also, please note Ashley’s amazing green leather jacket.)1Q1A5762

1Q1A5769My very beat-up Ramirez suede kitten pumps are extremely comfortable because they have elastic trim, much like a lot of the ballet flats you see these days. I love them so much I got them in purple, too!
