That’s essentially how I feel about Piece Apparel’s entire inventory. Every brand and store sells their own versions of the “basics,” and you can wind up swimming in a sea of staples that are almost, but not quite right. Piece Apparel makes quality basics in just the right cuts and colors to round out your wardrobe and step up your style—like their flannels, for instance. In case I haven’t mentioned it before, I’ve spent the last few years totally immersed in the 90s fashion revival, and thus searching for the perfect flannels to complete my updated grunge vibe. A great flannel should be easy to find, but I instead found myself repeatedly disappointed by flannels that were too big, used heinous color combinations, or were smothered in studs and other unnecessary embellishments. The Piece Apparel flannels have a classic feel, and are loose enough that you easily can rock one around your waist or open over a T shirt, but tailored enough to wear it comfortably under a sweater, or tucked into your pants without the hem surpassing your underwear. A pair of tights and a leather bomber will take this look right into Fall.

360My dad—the birthday boy, a sharp dresser, and the best dancer I know!

My lifestyle almost exclusively caters to casual street style. I don’t work in an office, and my friends and I typically opt for dive bars. Or couch. That being said, any girl who keeps up with celebrity red carpet looks imagines what she herself would wear to events like the MET Gala, the Golden Globes, or the Grammy’s. When my mother decided to throw a surprise birthday party for my dad, I decided to explore my personal red carpet fantasies. Sister brands Sandro and Maje have been my go-to party attire labels for the past year, so I made the Maje shop on Worth Avenue in Palm Beach, Florida the first stop on my dress hunt—and the last. As soon as I laid eyes on the “Edivas” dress, I fell in love with the vibrant color and unconventional structured mesh.

When I contemplated possible shoes to pair with the dress, I initially thought of white or silver. But when I saw these iridescent Jimmy Choo pumps in almost the exact same shade of orange as my dress, I knew I couldn’t deny fashion fate. Then I proceeded to spend months daydreaming about the outfit, and struggling with the stress of keeping the party itself a secret. I topped off the look with a few elegant yet edgy accessories, and went with plain white nails and understated makeup. And that incredible ensemble on my sister? She bought it the day of the party. The fact that our manicures matched each other’s outfits was purely accidental. (Again: much fashion fate).

Not only has photographer Mark Karlsberg of Studio Eleven Photography won multiple awards, including Best Candid Album in Massachusetts and New England from the Professional Photographers of New England Association, but he also photographed my parents’ wedding, as well as mine and my siblings’ respective Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. However, this was the first family event at which he stepped in for the lead singer of the band. Mind blown! If you’re looking for an event photographer who can also sing a killer rendition of “Brown-Eyed Girl,” then Mark Karlsberg’s your guy.

Favorites of 2013

fashionsauce - Version 2

Just like every other holiday, New Year’s is a time to reflect on all for which we are grateful. Rather than tell you about the amazing people and experiences that made 2013 a great year, I’ll share the beauty products that helped me savor every saucy moment.

1. MAC Lipstick in “Heroine” -The ongoing ’90s revival and Lorde’s sudden rise to queen bee status have brought deep, vibrant shades of purple lipstick to the forefront of fashion, and MAC’s “Heroine” is the obvious best. Though it was originally launched as a limited edition color, MAC announced last week that they are adding “Heroine” to their permanent collection. I only recently discovered this lipstick fit for royals, but it’s going to play the starring role in my New Year’s Eve look tonight, and it will definitely be making appearances on the blog soon.

2. Decleor Aroma Night Neroli Essential Balm -This nighttime balm is like chapstick for your face—great for relieving winter dryness. Recommended by my esthetician at Bliss Spa.

3. Kat Von D Tattoo Liner -Precision for the perfect cat eye.

4. Benefit Instant Brow Pencil -Bushy brows have made a major comeback, and I happen to think that’s the fucking sauce. Benefit has everything you need to gets your brows into shape.

5. Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gioia Perfume -I wear this perfume every day and people frequently tell me I smell good. That is all.

6. Too Faced Natural Eye Eyeshadow Collection -Choosing individual eyeshadow colors that compliment each other can be difficult, so I love the fact that brands like Too Faced have done the work for me. This kit will give you the tools to make your eyes stand out without going over the top.

7. Clinique CC Cream -Full title: “Moisture Surge CC Cream Hydrating Colour Corrector Broad Spectrum SPF 30.” So basically, this lightweight CC cream does it all. It gives the coverage of foundation, hydrates like a moisturizer, and protects your skin from the sun.

8. NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil -Why all lipsticks aren’t this shape, I do not know. The NARS lip pencil is really more like a big crayon that makes it easy to stay inside the lines of your lips, and just like crayons, it comes in a variety of awesome colors with fun names. My personal favorites are “Never Say Never,” “Damned,” and “Dragon Girl.”

9. Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion Potion is the appropriate word, because this stuff is like magic. With this primer, you could paint the Sistine Chapel on your lids and it will last all day. I guarantee it/double dare you.

10. My favorite mascara was tragically discontinued earlier this year (Clinique High Definition), and I’d hoped to discover a fabulous replacement to fill this slot (and the void in my heart) before the new year. Sadly, I’ve yet to find one that truly compares. If you use a mascara that you love, leave a comment and share your knowledge—A new year means trying new things!

Have a saucy New Year’s Eve, everyone!
