One of my favorite things about dressing for this season is the way cheerful springy-summery prints and colors prompt me to create modern takes on retro styles. My paisley button-down, cuffed pants, platform loafers and matchy-matchy accessories all have a ’60s/’70s vibe, but details like the cropped cut of my blouse, stacked rings, and my oh-so-millennial “OMG”-embossed clutch bring the look up to date.

Posh & Punk: A Lesson in Layering

Winter is all about texture and layering, which makes for an awesome opportunity to combine contrasting styles, and given that my last outfit post featured this coat as part of my Halloween costume (I promise the Sauce is back for real this time), I thought I’d share how I wear it when I’m just being Annie. I love pairing prim pieces, like this silk blouse, wool hat, and these revamped oxford-style shoes with rock n’ roll elements, like this concert tee and my beloved shag. A crisp collar with a graphic tee creates an unexpected bohemian vibe that’s neither too contrived nor too sloppy. You can take this look from lunch on Newbury Street to a show at the Sinclair or drinks at a swanky bar without having to make any day-to-night changes. Just make sure you have a bold lip color you love in your purse! Mixing prints and playing with matching-clashing colors can help brighten up your winter wardrobe, and I try to embrace the cold weather with lots of fuzz, whether it be on my coat, my purse, or both.

Fashion Week Street Style: What I Would Have Worn to London Fashion Week

Here’s the second installment of my Fashion Week-inspired outfit posts. Today: what I would have worn in London:

IMG_0840

IMG_0859American Apparel oversized button-down, LNA slip dress, Reiss hat, Jeffrey Campbell ‘Stoppard’ shoes, and Loeffler Randall ‘Mini Agenda’ bag, and men’s socks from CVS.

When I think of London, I think of updated, androgynous takes on the school-girl look, and this is my rendition of that uniform (with a hint of Wednesday Addams). Vertical stripes will elongate you, and a classic shirtdress never goes out of style. My favorite hat, which happens to be by one of my favorite British brands, brings the outfit to life. And If you’re looking for socks like this to complete your own outfit, look no further than your local pharmacy.
