Denim Dance

I recently showed you an oversized Canadian Tuxedo, so here’s a fitted one. This particular shade of denim blue is what comes to mind if you close your eyes and imagine jeans. In top-to-toe quantities, it gives me major retro vibes, so I chased that feeling with ’70’s-inspired layers and some of my favorite vintage pieces. You’ve seen this vintage Versace Jeans Couture tee star in a more feminine ensemble, and while this Western belt is super on-trend right now, it makes a solid throwback statement when sandwiched between two pieces of snug blue denim.

Transition Season

Denim-on-denim is the perfect look for transition season, when the weather just can’t quite make up its mind. Mix up you denim-on-denim with different kinds of jeans—skinny, boyfriend, black, blue, coated—and alternate accessories to make the look work for almost any occasion. My outfit above has a polished, daytime finish, but a pair of pumps would dress it up for date night in a snap. Distressed jeans, combat boots, and a bag with a bit more hardware would take me right to a rock show (which, if you’re like me, is date night).

Denim on Denim: Simplicity with an Edge

The only thing better than denim and leather is denim on denim and leather. Virtually every girl has the pieces for this outfit in her closet, and they create a reliable formula for a look that’s effortless, casual, rough around the edges, yet still polished. If you’re in the market for a chambray shirt, Madewell is the ultimate destination for all your redneck tuxedo needs.
