IMG_0091 - Version 2Becky is a recent Northeastern graduate and crop top enthusiast currently pursuing a career in child psychology here in Boston, and bringing some serious street style game to our city, as well. It’s great to have a friend who shares my affinity for 90s fashion/general old school pop culture—she even bought me my new tattoo choker, just like the ones my big sister and her cool friends wore while I was busy being too young to actually experience the fashions of that epic era…Anyway, I love how Becky took a simple, go-to grunge look, and made it completely new with her Steve Madden gladiators, which received about a hundred compliments per block on Newbury Street. A sophisticated bag or a statement shoe can make band tees and baggy shorts anything but basic. I’ll never give up this old Zeppelin tee. The open back is clutch on hot summer days, and The Song Remains the Same is definitely one of the best concert films of all time.

That flicker in time between the late 80s and early 90s was a sweet spot in fashion. I don’t usually combine so many loud pieces in one look, but sometimes you just have to let more be more. I think what makes this outfit work are the components’ striking similarities, and subtle differences. They echo each other. Matching-clashing shades of pink is a good way to achieve that ‘Girls Just ‘Wanna Have Fun’ feel—not to mention embellished denim, neon shades, vibrant lips, and a hit of glitter.

Personally, I find rainbow denim extremely versatile. While I have lots of more colorful plans for these pants, a simple black tank and menswear-inspired loafers give them a polished, almost low-key look. Almost. The giant daisy earrings and red lips are in keeping with the pants’ zany, summery spirit. Stay tuned for more rainbow denim adventures…

1Q1A6987Has anyone else noticed that all women’s Nikes are neon pink these days? It may seem silly, but I custom designed these Nike Airmax sneakers with NikeID because I just couldn’t find a pair of sleek black sneakers anywhere. I took them for a walk in Central Square with my Sandro coat, American Apparel lime green sweater, Vince pants, ombre beanie, Oliver Peoples sunglasses, and my Alexander Wang Marion bag. 1Q1A7001
