The long weekend has come to and end, but MDW is the official kickoff for summer, and so it’s time to start thinking about your off-duty summer style. When it comes to dressing for summer weekends, it’s all about creating outfits that look both relaxed and refined. I give my flowing, vintage floral maxi dress a stylish kick with my sleek, silver choker and structured Alexander Wang ‘Marion’ bag. You can spice up casual summer staples, like graphic tanks and cutoffs, with a bold lip color and dressier boots. Look for comfortable classics with a sophisticated twist, like the mesh overlay on my oversized, pastel sweater, or minimalist sandals in luxe patent-leather. And try fun, wide-brimmed hats for extra flair (and sun protection).

As usual, my mind is on Bonnaroo Music Festival and my heart is in 1996. Luckily, the festival is less than a month away. As I gear up for Tennessee, I’ve been accompanying some of my favorite grunge pieces with girly hints of pink and stacked scrunchies on my wrist.

Tie dye and color-dyed denim are both summer classics. Bring them together with a monochromatic color scheme, and add sleek accessories for the perfect summer ensemble.

Palazzo Pants Party

Dresses and skirts aren’t the only clothes made for twirling. Palazzo pants, a boho staple, are basically maxi skirts in which you can perform high kicks, and that’s pretty cool. Dress them up a bit with a pair of wedges or flatforms, or rock them at a music festival with cushy sandals.

Personally, I find rainbow denim extremely versatile. While I have lots of more colorful plans for these pants, a simple black tank and menswear-inspired loafers give them a polished, almost low-key look. Almost. The giant daisy earrings and red lips are in keeping with the pants’ zany, summery spirit. Stay tuned for more rainbow denim adventures…

Easter, graduation season, and the general arrival of warm weather means everyone is breaking out their little white dresses—but they’re not limited to girly-girl styling. To embrace your LWD’s versatility/avoid looking like you’re headed to your first Communion, ditch your preppy wedges and Jack Rogers sandals, and try combat boots and other vintage-inspired accessories instead.

Recently I’ve been really inspired by the Spice Girls-meets-grunge pieces by brands like UNIF and Lazy Oaf, and the way that my favorite online boutiques, Nasty Gal and Dolls Kill, have been styling them. Bright lips, neon shades, glittery nails, and lots of pizza are the perfect accessories for this look.
