Blushing While Pale

DSC_0780Maje ‘Eclair’ jacquard knit poncho-style scarf in nude, Sandro ‘Elixia’ silk top in ecru, BDG ‘Twig’ skinny jeans in white slash, customized Furla ‘Metropolis’ cross body bag in moonstone and pelato, Joie sandals, Marc Jacobs sunglasses.

I used to always avoid two things: 1) going matchy-matchy, and 2) pastels that might closely resemble my complexion. In the past couple of years, however, I’ve learned that matchy outfits can be sublime when executed with finesse, and that even my pale ass can’t resist the dreamy shades of nude and blush that have become ubiquitous in fashion this season. So how does a pale girl who prefers a little edge work a matchy-matchy ensemble comprised of white and pastel pink? By adding small and subtle elements of darkness that can cut the cloud of soft cashmere and silk with sex appeal. It’s a super easy solution. By exposing my lacy black bra (the current lingerie as outerwear trend is seriously fabulous) and accessorizing with a black choker and sleek black sandals, I’ve successfully eliminated any traces of unwanted preppy-ness from this look. (No hate towards my preppy peeps, it’s just not my style!)

I’m one of those girls who’s always cold, but sometimes a jacket is too heavy, and cardigans make me look like a 12-year-old attempting to look like a 70-year-old, so I’ve spent a lot of evenings making everyone uncomfortable as I insist that I’m fine, while I shiver uncontrollably like a complete asshole. Enter wraps and poncho scarves: they’re such a sophisticated, yet hip way to stay warm on cooler summer days and nights. I feel like an absolute movie star in this thing, and I love how you can leave it open or wrap it all the way around for equally elegant and dramatic effects. As for this lovely silk top by Sandro, I always prefer a peplum when it’s not so structured. The movement and ease bring a little something special to an otherwise simple piece—which is currently on sale! Another shopping tip: dropping a ton of cash on basic denim is insane and totally unnecessary. BDG is a brand that covers all the basics you need in your wardrobe without making a huge dent in your wallet, and they run super true to size. You’re welcome!
