Funky, high-waisted pants paired with a plain crop top is my signature outfit for a night out, but something’s different this time: I’ve decided to ditch the heels. Look, high heels are a beautiful thing, appropriate for many occasions. They’re sophisticated, and can help create the illusion of a longer, slimmer figure. They’re chic, feminine, powerful…and they are so. Fucking. Uncomfortable. I’m just not one of those fashionistas who can endure a whole evening at a bar or on the dance floor without wincing in my stilettos or towering booties, but I’ve previously felt too insecure about my short stature and short legs to swap them out for shoes that don’t cut off the circulation of my toes. That’s stupid. I shouldn’t have to compromise my confidence or comfort, especially when I’m supposed to be cutting loose. The solution? One of the year’s most popular trends: luxury leggings. So, this past Saturday, I decided to rock my new Zadig & Voltaire leggings with my trusty combat boots, which resulted in a cute but totally comfortable, deliciously ’90s look that transitioned effortlessly from day to night. The fitted, high-waisted silhouette and black piping at the side seams elongate my legs enough to leave my heels at home and dance the night away. My beat-up boots and oversized leather bomber keep the outfit casual enough for daytime street style, while the crop top and metallic bag make for fun nighttime touches. Since I’m [still] obsessed ’90s style, I went with a leather choker and gray-nude matte lip color, but switching up the smaller details will help me get more wear out of a statement piece like these leggings. For an outfit that’s strictly for day, these fancy pants also lend themselves well to the tomboy aesthetic, and look awesome with a baggy tee or pull-over hoodie.
